Millions of New Jerseyans surely associate Bruce Springsteen songs with memories of their youth. Lots of other people, too — including North Carolina native Eric Church, who had a Top 20 hit in 2012 with a song about that phenomenon, “Springsteen.”

The song includes references to several Springsteen songs plus a chorus that goes, in part: “Funny how a melody sounds like a memory/Like a soundtrack to a July Saturday night/Springsteen.”

“Even though you’re a million miles away/When you hear ‘Born in the USA.’/You relive those glory days/So long ago,” he sings in another part of the song.

It wasn’t Church’s first hit, but it was his biggest hit to date, and remains one of his signature songs. Below is a video of him singing it at the ACM Awards show in 2012.

New Jersey celebrated its 350th birthday in 2014. And in the 350 Jersey Songs series, we marked the occasion by posting 350 songs — one a day, from September 2014 to September 2015 — that have something to do with the state, its musical history, or both. To see the entire list, click here.
