ERIC MINTEL

Dec. 20 at 4 p.m., pianist Eric Mintel’s quartet will present a 100th birthday tribute to Dave Brubeck (born Dec. 6, 1920) as the featured performers in the New Jersey Jazz Society’s one-hour Virtual Jazz Social. The performance can be seen at no charge on the organization’s Facebook page.

“We’ll be doing some Brubeck, plus a couple of Brubeck-inspired originals,” said Mintel in a press release, which listed “Blue Rondo à la Turk,” “Koto Song,” “Three to Get Ready” and “Crescent City Stomp” among the Brubeck numbers that will be performed.

In the press release, Mintel said that when he discovered Brubeck’s “Take Five”/”Blue Rondo à la Turk” single as a young teenager in Bucks County, Pa., “I decided, ‘This is what I want to do.’ ”

Eight years later, he met Brubeck at a concert at the Kenswick Theatre in Glenside, Pa., and in 2005 his quartet opened for Brubeck at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.

Mintel’s quartet features alto saxophonist Nelson Hill, drummer Dave Mohn and bassist Jack Hegyi.

Brubeck died in 2012 at the age of 91.
