Steven Van Zandt and his wife Maureen had an extremely charitable December. Their TeachRock.org educational program had a virtual fundraiser titled “Stand With Teachers.” They reunited with other “Sopranos” cast members in Steve Buscemi’s Friends of Firefighters online benefit. And while Little Steven’s Policeman’s Ball (co-founded with Det. Kevin Schroeder) didn’t have its usual fundraiser, it still raised money privately for police widows and their children, and children with special needs. The charities raised more than $1 million, collectively, with these initiatives.
Steven Van Zandt also performed at Joe Walsh’s VetsAid virtual concert, on Dec. 12.
“In this crazy COVID year, Maureen and I felt if was even more important to support some of our most valued, selfless professions that keep working despite the dangers — namely firefighters, police, teachers and vets,” said Steven Van Zandt.
The TeachRock fundraiser — which featured performances by Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder, Jackson Browne and others — can continue to be ordered and streamed through Dec. 31. Visit teachrock.org.
Also, you can watch the “Sopranos” reunion video — which also featured Edie Falco, Lorraine Bracco, Michael Imperioli, Drea de Matteo and others, acting out a new scene written by “Sopranos” creator David Chase — below, and continue to donate to the cause at friendsoffirefighters.org.
