Outdoor ‘The Bard at Bell Works’ theater and dance festival is planned for April

An outdoor arts festival, “The Bard at Bell Works,” takes place in April.

In perhaps the best sign yet that 2021 will really be different from 2020, an outdoor arts festival — yes, an outdoor arts festival, incorporating theater and dance — will take place in April.

A joint project of Axelrod Contemporary Ballet Theater, the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey and the Axelrod Performing Arts Academy, “The Bard at Bell Works” will feature performances at the roof deck of Bell Works in Holmdel from April 11 to April 25.

Here is the schedule:

APRIL 10

Noon: “Primary Show” (scenes, songs and dances from “Aladdin,” “School of Rock” and “The Little Mermaid” by students of the Axelrod Performing Arts Academy Primary program).

APRIL 11

11 a.m.: “Primary Show.”
2 p.m.: “The Bard on Broadway” (excerpts from William Shakespeare plays such as “Romeo and Juliet” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and Shakespeare-inspired musicals such as “West Side Story,” “Something Rotten!” and “Kiss Me, Kate,” performed by a mixture of professionals and Axelrod Performing Arts Academy students).
4 p.m.: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” ballet, presented by Axelrod Contemporary Ballet Theater and featuring choreography from AXCBT director Gabriel Chajnik.

APRIL 16

6 p.m.: “A Midsummer Night Dream” ballet.
7:30 p.m.: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” play, presented by The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey.

​APRIL 17

3 p.m.: “The Bard on Broadway.”
6:30 p.m.: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” ballet.

APRIL 18

Noon: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” play.
2:30 p.m.: “The Bard on Broadway.”
4:30 p.m.: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” ballet.

APRIL 23

6 p.m.: “The Bard on Broadway.”
7:30 p.m.: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” play.

APRIL 24

3 p.m.: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Ballet.
5 p.m.: “The Bard on Broadway.”

APRIL 25

3 p.m.: “The Bard on Broadway.”
5 p.m.: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” ballet.
