NJPAC’s TD James Moody Jazz Festival announces shows for 2021 edition, in November

Christian McBride’s Civil Rights-themed “The Movement Revisited,” a tribute to Newport Jazz Festival founder George Wein and a performance by the all-female jazz supergroup Artemis will be among the offerings of the 10th annual TD James Moody Jazz Festival, which will take place from Nov. 6 to Nov. 20.

The festival is presented by NJPAC at NJPAC and other Newark venues. The complete schedule for this year is not available yet, but tickets are on sale for some of the major concerts.

Nov. 6: Chaka Khan, Leela James at NJPAC’s Prudential Hall.
Nov. 11: Christian McBride’s “The Movement Revisited” at NJPAC’s Prudential Hall. A musical portrait of Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., also featuring the words of Barack Obama. The Christian McBride Big Band will be joined by orators Sonia Sanchez, Willie Perdomo, John Murillo and Dion Graham.
Nov. 12: Chris Botti at NJPAC’s Prudential Hall.
Nov. 13: Dianne Reeves and Artemis (featuring Renee Rosnes, Anat Cohen, Ingrid Jensen, Nicole Glover, Noriko Ueda and Allison Miller) at NJPAC’s Prudential Hall.
Nov. 14: Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition at NJPAC’s Victoria Theater. With Dianne Reeves and Christian McBride as co-hosts and guest performers.
Nov. 14: Dorthaan’s Place Jazz Brunch: Cyrus Chestnut at NJPAC’s NICO Kitchen + Bar.
Nov. 20: “Swingin’ at 96: Anat Cohen & the Newport All-Stars Salute George Wein” at NJPAC’s Victoria Theater. Wein, who turns 96 in October, co-founded the Newport Jazz Festival and other prominent jazz festivals. Among those joining Cohen will be Christian McBride, Kenny Barron and Randy Brecker.
