Likely the only person to have been nominated for a Latin Grammy award and also to have played in a major league baseball All-Star Game, jazz guitarist Bernie Williams will perform at The Woodland in Maplewood, Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
The centerfielder for four World Series-winning Yankees teams from 1996 to 2000, Williams released his first album in 2003 and retired from baseball in 2006. His second album, Moving Forward, was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the Best Instrumental Album category in 2009.
At the Woodland, he will play in a quartet also featuring guitarist Gil Parris, bassist Will Lee and drummer-vocalist Josh Dion.
The venue, built in 1930, is the regular home of the Rent Party series of charity rock concerts and has also hosted Django a Gogo Festival shows (celebrating the music of Django Reinhardt) and other events in recent years.
The show will be presented by Smooth Jazz New Jersey. Tickets are available via smoothjazznj.com.
