TOMMY JAMES

New Jersey Hall of Famer Tommy James and his band The Shondells will headline the fourth annual Benefit Concert for the Homeless, presented by the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark, Nov. 13 at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway. Visit ucpac.org/events.

Proceeds will support homeless services and programs provided by the organization in Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Union counties. VIP tickets will include prime seating as well as a pre-show reception with food and drinks.

James, who grew up in Ohio and Michigan but has lived in New Jersey since the early ’70s, had a remarkable string of hits in the ’60s and ’70s — including “Hanky Panky,” “Mony Mony,” “I Think We’re Alone Now,” “Crimson and Clover,” “Crystal Blue Persuasion” and “Draggin’ the Line” — and remains a dynamic concert performer.

His new album, Rock Party, includes remixes of some of his best-known songs and deep cuts from the ’90s (“Annie Come Knockin’,” “Say Please”) as well as “Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah),” which he originally recorded in 1976 (after Gary Glitter had hit with it in 1973, but before Joan Jett covered it in 1981). You can listen to James’ Rock Party version, below.
