Blues singer-songwriter-guitarist Walter Trout — who headlined the free, annual Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival in 2017 — will headline again this year, Sept. 17, outdoors on the Morristown Green. For information, visit morristownjazzandblues.com.
The festival, now in its 12th year, used to take place every August. But it moved to September last year because of the pandemic, and with attendees enjoying the cooler weather, the decision was made to keep it in September.
As usual, the festival will focus on jazz, early in the day, and blues later on. He is the schedule:
Noon: James Langton’s New York All-Star Big Band featuring Dan Levinson. Some of the members of the 14-piece group include pianist Rossano Sportiello, trumpeters Brian Pareschi and Mike Davis, saxophonist Will Anderson, trombonists Jim Fryer and Harvey Tibbs and guitarist and singer Molly Ryan, in addition to saxophonist and singer Langton, and clarinetist and saxophonist Levinson.
2 p.m.: Frank Vignola’s Guitar Night at Birdland Band featuring guitarist Jimmy Bruno, keyboardist John DiMartino, bassist Gary Mazzaroppi and drummer Vince Cherico. (The band plays weekly, on Wednesdays, at Birdland in New York.)
4 p.m.: Bria Skonberg and her quintet
6 p.m.: Veronica Lewis
8 p.m.: Walter Trout
Here is Trout’s new single, “Ride.” It’s the title track of his next album, which is due out in August.
