The new Asbury Park Theater Company will kick off its first, three-show season with the rock musical “Green Day’s American Idiot” at the Kingsley Theater at The Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel in Asbury Park, July 1-3 and 8-10.

Next up will be “Million Dollar Quartet,” the jukebox musical about Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins, Dec. 2-4 and 9-11, and then the contemporary drama, “American Son,” in April.
“The decision to present (‘Green Day’s American Idiot’) as our first show came out of the idea that Asbury Park is such a big rock and roll town,” said Bob Angelini, the theater company’s managing director, in a press release. “We were a bit concerned about the size of the show, but knew that we could find the talent in this area to pull it off. And when we saw that Green Day was headlining the Sea.Hear.Now Festival in Asbury Park in September, it seemed to be a good fit for an awesome summer event, so we just all agreed to go for it.”
Anthony D’Amato, the rock performer known as Remember Jones, will serve as production supervisor.
“When they asked me to help out,” said D’Amato. “I took no time in deciding that I wanted to be a part of this. I have been doing theater my entire life and being an Asbury Park resident, I wanted to be involved in this production. And who doesn’t love Green Day?”
