“It’s happening,” posted The Smithereens on Facebook today regarding their upcoming Lost Album, along with the album cover to the right. Amazon.com lists a release date of Sept. 23 along with the following write-up:
In the Fall of 1993, between contracts with Capitol and RCA, The Smithereens ventured into Crystal Sound Studios NYC to write and record a new album for their own label. The results of those one month marathon recording sessions is this album, unheard by the outside world until now, and appropriately titled “Lost Album”.
In a 2020 interview with Chris Jordan of the Asbury Park Press, group member Jim Babjak briefly discussed the project. “We decided to go into the studio and start recording and we ended up recording two albums worth of material,” he said. “Half of it became ‘A Date with the Smithereens,’ but the other half was forgotten but it’s there, and we found it, and we’re going to master it.”
A Date With the Smithereens came out in April 1994 on the RCA label.
