Radiohead’s songs are covered very often — except for “Creep,” which everyone from Kelly Clarkson and The Pretenders to Prince and Pearl Jam has taken a stab at. Perhaps most notably, Macy Gray included a great version of it on her 2012 album Covered.
At the Montclair Jazz Festival, Sept. 10, Danielle Ponder also performed a memorable version of it, turning the intense four-minute ballad (as originally recorded, on Radiohead’s 1993 Pablo Honey album) into an eight-minute epic. You can watch it below.
Ponder — a native of Rochester, N.Y. — has been performing “Creep” for several years. She will release her eight-track debut album, Some of Us Are Brave, on Sept. 16, on the Future Classic label (“Creep,” alas, is not on it).
