There was a big surprise in the pre-taped 14th induction ceremony for the New Jersey Hall of Fame, which debuted today on television and online.
Former Beatles bandmates Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr taped separate videos congratulating inductee Max Weinberg, best known as a member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band. Weinberg’s son Jay, also a drummer (he now plays with the heavy metal band Slipknot), did the actual induction speech. But after a tape reviewing Max’s life and career is played, Starr and McCartney spoke, briefly, and McCartney also played a little drums.
Also in tribute to Weinberg, his friends and collaborators (in Max Weinberg’s Jukebox) The Weeklings played a cover of The Easybeats’ “Friday on My Mind.”
(Note: In the video embedded below, the Weinberg segment starts at the 43:15 mark, but the Starr and McCartney videos have been edited out, and a video of Tom Morello playing a new tune he wrote called “An Ode to Max Weinberg” has been edited in. Bizarre. The Starr and McCartney videos can be seen when the special re-airs Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. and Nov. 20 at 11 p.m. on MY9TV; and Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. on NJPBS television.)
Jon Bon Jovi also participated in the ceremony, inducting comedian, writer and talk show host Chelsea Handler.
Other inductees included former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski; the late Richard J. Hughes (who served as New Jersey’s governor from 1962 to 1970); the late photographer Margaret Bourke-White; the late Walter Dean Myers, who wrote books for children and young adults; and three-time Olympic soccer medalist Heather O’Reilly.
Danny DeVito hosted the ceremony.

Don’t see the videos of Paul or Ringo…
They’re there. The Weinberg segment starts at the 43:15 mark, and the Starr and McCartney videos are at the end of it.
Actually it appears you’re right. They took McCartney and Starr videos out and put that Tom Morello tribute out. Bizarre.
“put that Tom Morello tribute in,” I meant to write.
Yes that’s why I was puzzled, because there were the Weeklings and Tom, but no Paul or Ringo. ☹️
Very Nice, To honor accomplished Folks from the State of New Jersey,
But Who ever thought it was a good idea to remove, Paul and Ringo, flat messed up, It’s awesome when the best honor the best.
Being a Drummer myself, I’ve always been a Fan of Weinberg, his skills are incredible, Congratulations 🎉
Where was Bruce?
