Ryan Adams announced, today, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, that he is planning to release a free digital album featuring his versions of the songs from Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 Nebraska album. You can listen to the rough mix of his version of the title track, below.
(Dec. 7 Update: The album is now available, here.)
Springsteen’s Nebraska — a dark, stripped-down album whose best known songs include “Atlantic City,” “Johnny 99,” “Mansion on the Hill” and “State Trooper” — was released a little more than 40 years ago, on Sept. 30, 1982.
Adams’ message on Facebook read:
Happy Thanksgiving …
Here’s a rough mix of the title track of “Nebraska” — I’ll be emailing you my version of the whole album as an early Xmas present for free soon.
What a special album that taught me so much about songwriting. It still does after all these years. Go listen to the original if you haven’t, you’ll love it forever.
I hope to see you in #Omaha Nebraska next week and where ever else you may roam. I’m so looking forward to the last shows of the year.
Many surprises to come. Thanks for being on this ride with me. It means the world. I’m very Thankful for you all.
With Love,
XO

“DRA” refers to his full name, David Ryan Adams.

I honestly don’t like it. What’s with the shitty drum machine?
Yeah this is NOT GOOD. Like we need a cover of this classic album, especially from a little creep like Adams. No thank you!
No thanks. This album is a classic and doesn’t need a track for track cover version. And besides Adams is a jerk.
Ryan Adams: “sorry I’m not gonna cover another album again.”
Also Ryan Adams: “here’s a half-assed cover version of one of the greatest albums of all time. Please give me attention again!”
