I believe the first time I saw Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes perform was at the Garden State Arts Center (now the PNC Bank Arts Center) in Holmdel, though it may have been The Ritz (now Webster Hall) in New York. I mention that because the band is going to be a late addition to PNC’s summer schedule, subbing for Gregg Allman, who had been co-billed with ZZ Top on Sept. 1.

The concert is WDHA-FM’s annual “Rock the Park” show, and Foghat and Jonny Two Bags will also perform, according to livenation.com.

On Aug. 5, Allman announced that he was canceling all concert appearances through mid-October due to “serious” but undisclosed health reasons. Allman was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 2007 and received a liver transplant in 2010, and has had other health woes as well, though it has not been announced if his current ailment is related to his past ones.

Allman had also been scheduled to perform with ZZ Top at the Borgata Hotel Casino in Spa in Atlantic City on Aug. 26; that show has now been cancelled.

Below is a video of Southside performing “Key to the Highway” with Allman and the rest of the Allman Brothers Band at the Beacon Theatre in New York in 2007.
