As she has been doing since Tina Turner died on May 24 at the age of 83, Beyoncé performed a slowed-down version of one of Turner’s signature songs, “River Deep — Mountain High,” at her July 29 concert at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford. You can watch a video of the song, below.
The show, which was part of Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour, kicked off a two-night stand in the Meadowlands.
Written by Phil Spector, Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and released by Ike & Tina Turner in 1969, “River Deep — Mountain High” was not initially a huge hit but the recording has come to be regarded as one of Tina Turner’s greatest moments, and the song was later covered by many other artists.
Here is the setlist of Beyoncé’s show, according to setlist.fm. Some songs were played in shortened form and/or included excerpts from other songs.
