Bobby McGrath is a country artist who lives in New York, and can normally be found playing New York clubs such as the Cutting Room and the Bitter End. On Friday, though, he will get a chance to increase his following significantly, opening for a crowd of thousands at the Rascal Flatts concert at the Prudential Center in Newark.
He and his band, the Brothers, won the chance to open the show — which also features the Swon Brothers — by winning a Battle of the Country Bands contest sponsored by NASH-FM (94.7).
The Swon Brothers is a duo featuring two brothers; McGrath’s brother Tommy plays in his band, though the other musicians are high school friends of theirs from when they grew up, in the Albany, N.Y. area.
Rascal Flatts has released a remarkably consistent stream of country hits over the last 15 years, including this year’s “Rewind” and “Payback.”
