On Sept. 14, the night before his scheduled Sept. 15 appearance on the Asbury Park beach at the Sea.Hear.Now festival, Bruce Springsteen made an unbilled appearance at The Stone Pony, performing on “Boom Boom,” “Down the Road a Piece,” “Gloria,” “Lucille” and “My Babe” (with Rachel Ana Dobken on lead vocals) with Danny Clinch’s Tangiers’ Blues Band.

Jake Clemons of The E Street Band performed as well, as did Robert Randolph (who performed during the day at Sea.Hear.Now) and the Ocean Avenue Stompers horn section.

Clinch is a rock photographer who has frequently worked with Springsteen, as well as the owner of Asbury Park’s Transparent Clinch Gallery and one of the co-founders of Sea.Hear.Now.

You can see YouTube videos below, as well as a video of Springsteen wishing The Stone Pony a happy 50th anniversary.

I have also included videos from this show of The Tangiers Blues Band performing with Noah Kahan (“Folsom Prison Blues”), Grace Potter (“I Just Want to Make Love to You”) and Robert Randolph (“Who Do You Love?”).

The last time Springsteen has performed at the club’s indoor stage (not the larger outdoor Summer Stage) for an open-to-the-public event (not a private benefit) was in 2010, with Alejandro Escovedo.

Springsteen and the E Street band are scheduled to perform on the main Sea.Hear.Now stage at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15. Visit seahearnowfestival.com.

(UPDATE: Click HERE for a report on the band’s headlining set. Springsteen also performed with The Trey Anastasio Band and The Gaslight Anthem at Sea.Hear.Now, Sept. 15. And there is a photo gallery from Sept. 15, below).
