Shows have been announced for the 2025-26 season at Paper Mill Playhouse.
“Bull Durham,” a musical based on the 1988 movie, will open the 2025-26 season at The Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, in October and November.
Ron Shelton, who wrote and directed the film — which co-starred Kevin Costner and Tim Robbins as minor-league baseball players, and Susan Sarandon as a woman who is romantically interested in both of them — also wrote the book for the musical, which features music and lyrics by singer-songwriter Susan Werner. It premiered in 2014 at The Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, but there were reportedly significant changes before its 2024 run at The Reynolds Industries Theater at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
Marc Bruni, who directed “The Great Gatsby” at The Paper Mill in 2023, will direct.
The entire five-musical Paper Mill season will be:
Oct. 2-Nov. 2: “Bull Durham”
Nov. 26-Jan. 4: “Disney’s Frozen”
Feb. 4-March 1: “Come From Away”
April 1-26, 2026: “1776”
May 28-June 28, 2026: “West Side Story”
Of course, “1776” — the 1969 musical about the creation of the Declaration of Independence — will coincide with the 250th anniversary of the year 1776.
