Original E Street Band keyboardist David Sancious will be interviewed by Bob Santelli in the first episode of “Soundstage,” a monthly online series presented by the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University in West Long Branch. The episode can be seen starting July 2 at 10 a.m.
According to a press release, “Soundstage” will “explore new works, trends, and contemporary issues in American music. It can be accessed at monmouth.edu/springsteen-archives-and-center-for-american-music or facebook.com/brucespringsteenarchives.
Sancious contributed to Springsteen’s first three albums: Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J., The Wild, The Innocent & the E Street Shuffle, and Born to Run (appearing on the title track only). He left the E Street Band in 1974 to concentrate on his jazz-fusion group, Tone, and later played with Sting, Peter Gabriel, Eric Clapton and others, and well as touring and recording as a solo artist.
Sancious released a new, politically charged album, Eyes Wide Open, in April. You can listen to the title track below.
Santelli, a New Jersey native and Monmouth University alumnus who is the founding executive director of the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, said in the press release: “Eyes Wide Open is an album made for these times. On it, David Sancious explores the tyranny of racism in America, while remaining resolutely funky and musically deep. And as always, the playing is first-rate. It’s an honor to have David launch our ‘Soundstage’ series.”
The artists to be featured on future editions of “Soundstage” have not been announced yet.
