The biannual Exit Zero Jazz Festival has found a new main venue for its spring 2021 edition: the Grand Green Space on the grounds of the Cape May-Lewes Ferry in North Cape May.
Co-headliners will include the Joey DeFrancesco Trio, April 23; the Robert Glasper Trio, April 24; and the Madeleine Peyroux Trio, April 25.
The festival — which has traditionally presented most of its shows at crowded Cape May theaters, bars and restaurants — cancelled in spring 2020, but took place at the Emlen Physick Estate and other outdoor locations in fall 2020.
“Back in October we reimagined our production, making sure to utilize safety procedures that could bring people together to take in the live music we all so needed, while safely keeping attendees apart physically with socially distanced seating pods,” said producer Michael Kline in a press release. “Our fans and musicians responded enthusiastically and co-operated wholeheartedly with the production staff, resulting in the only live jazz festival in North America in the last six months of 2020.”
Other performers on two Grand Green Space stages and the festival’s satellite venues (including the Cape May Brewing Company, Hawk Haven Winery and Nauti Spirits Distillery) in April will include Joey Alexander, Kandace Springs, the Matthew Whitaker Quartet, Adonis Rose Piece of Mind, the Pedrito Martinez Band, the Immanuel Wilkins Quartet, Alphonso Horne’s Gotham Kings, Red Baraat, and Shamarr Allen & the Underdawgs.
