The new, socially distanced version of the Fountains of Wayne song “Hackensack” that was performed as a tribute to late band member Adam Schlesinger by surviving band members on the recent ‘Jersey 4 Jersey’ fundraiser has been released on Bandcamp, with all net proceeds going to the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund. According to a press release, it will be available for download for one month, only.

Fountains of Wayne members Chris Collingwood (lead vocals and guitar), Jody Porter (guitar) and Brian Young (drums) were joined by Sharon Van Etten (bass, backing vocals) on the song. This was the first performance by Fountains of Wayne in any form in seven years.
“Hackensack” is from the band’s 2003 album, Welcome Interstate Managers, and was not released as a single then. Katy Perry also performed it on her 2009 “MTV Unplugged” special and album.
Schlesinger, who grew up in Montclair and co-wrote “Hackensack” with Collingwood, died of complications from COVID-19 at the age of 52, on April 1.
“Jersey 4 Jersey,” which took place April 22 and also featured Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, among others, raised about $6 million for the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund.
