Free show by Southside Johnny and the Poor Fools will be part of Fort Lee music and film series

Southside Johnny and the Poor Fools will perform in Fort Lee on July 22.

Southside Johnny and his rootsy side band, The Poor Fools, will be among the performers in the “Music and Movies Under the Stars” series this summer, in Fort Lee.

This is a free series, and a unique one: Each Saturday evening from July 1 to Sept. 2 features a band performance, followed by a film screening, outdoors at the Fort Lee Community Center. (In the event of rain, the show will move inside.)

The Poor Fools, who include Jeff Kazee (keyboards), John Putnam (guitar, pedal steel), Neal Pawley (guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, trombone) and John Conte (bass), play blues, country and roots-rock music.

Groups featured on other nights range from the neo-swing group Swingadelic to the popular cover band The Nerds, and the movie lineup includes both classics (“Casablanca,” “Singin’ in the Rain”) and more recent hits (“La La Land,” “The Lego Batman Movie”).

Here is the schedule. The bands will begin playing at 7 p.m., with the movie at sunset. For information, visit fortleenj.org.
