The Black Potatoe Music Festival was presented for the last time in 2019. But it will live on, in a sense, at this year’s 10th annual edition of the Groove in the Grove Indie Music Festival at Vasa Park in Budd Lake, which will be headlined by Black Potatoe’s traditional headliner, the Matt Angus Thing, and feature a lineup packed with Black Potatoe regulars: Kathy Phillips with Walt Bibinger, Gregg Cagno, e’lissa jones, Kate & Paul, The Sharar Sisters, Loretta Hagen, Katherine Rondeau, Marion Halliday and Robinson Treacher.
Matt Angus will also present an acoustic set during the day before headlining with his full band at night.
It is possible that another performer or two will be added. “But it’s pretty settled at this point,” said co-organizer Renee Paddock.
The event, which is presented by Skylands Songwriters Guild and hosted by Arlington Lodge 62 of the Vasa Order of America, “was partly modeled after The Black Potatoe Music Festival (and others) in presenting Indie Songwriters,” organizers wrote on Facebook. “The BP left us a few years ago and we miss our friends — so we’ve decided to pool resources and host The Matt Angus Thing at Groove!”
This will be the last Groove in the Grove festival, said Paddock. “It’s a tough environment, and a lot of work,” she said.
The two-stage festival will run from noon to 8 p.m. and feature crafts and food vendors, and an outdoor bar. There will be no admission charge for those younger than 18. Masks will be required.
