Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band performed at The MVP Arena in Albany, April 15.

A tip to anyone planning to attend a show by Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band this year: Don’t get there late.

Less than a month into their 2024 shows, one trend is strikingly obvious. Most of the shows have opened with a surprise. There was “Something in the Night” in San Francisco, night 1; “Light of Day” in San Franciso, night 2; “Boom Boom” in Inglewood, California, night 1; “Open All Night” in Inglewood, night 2; “Roll of the Dice” at the two casino-town shows (Las Vegas and Uncasville Connecticut). And, tonight in Albany, a double shot of “Candy’s Room” and “Adam Raised a Cain.” (Watch video below.)

All of these songs were tour debuts, or rarely enough performed by the band in 2023 and 2024 to qualify as rarities.

This was not the case in 2023. Springsteen stuck with “No Surrender” as the opener through most of his shows that year, and while there were a few shockers in the course of the year (“Local Hero” in Newark, for instance), they were rare. Now — for the time being, at least — they have become expected.

Here is the Albany show’s setlist:

“Candy’s Room”
“Adam Raised a Cain”
“Lonesome Day”
“Ghosts”
“Letter to You”
“The Promised Land”
“Atlantic City”
“Trapped”
“Spirit in the Night”
“Hungry Heart”
“Nightshift”
“Racing in the Street”
“Last Man Standing”
“Backstreets”
“Because the Night”
“Downbound Train”
“She’s the One”
“Wrecking Ball”
“The Rising”
“Badlands”
“Thunder Road”

Encore
“Light of Day”
“Born to Run”
“Bobby Jean”
“Dancing in the Dark”
“Tenth Avenue Freeze-out”
“Twist and Shout”
“I’ll See You in My Dreams”

Springsteen’s next show will take place April 18 in the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse.
