The Montclair-based educational organization Jazz House Kids will present two socially distanced fundraising concerts, titled “Jazz by Starlight,” in the backyard of a Montclair home, Oct. 9-10.
Bassist Christian McBride — Jazz House Kids’ artistic chair as well as the husband of Jazz House Kids founder and president Melissa Walker — will perform Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m., along with saxophonist Ravi Coltraine, drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts and pianist Christian Sands.
Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m., singer Jazzmeia Horn will perform with backing by pianist Keith Brown, bassist Eric Wheeler and drummer Anwar Marshall. (OCT. 3 UPDATE: Pianist Bill Charlap has been added to this show; he’ll perform in a duo format with McBride.)
The rain date for both shows is Oct. 11. If they are both postponed, they will both take place on that day, one in the afternoon and one in the evening.
While Jazz House Kids is not currently presenting in-person classes, it does have a variety of online offerings.
