Count Basie Theatre’s summer jazz fest will feature Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and more

Herbie Hancock will perform at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank on Aug. 6 as part of the Basie Summer Jazz Fest.

Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Béla Fleck and Dave Koz will be among the artists participating in the Count Basie Theatre’s first Basie Summer Jazz Fest, a series of four shows in July and August.

In a press release, Adam Philipson, president and CEO of the Red Bank theater, described the fest as a way to “celebrate the genre and fulfill our mission of celebrating the life of William J. (Count) Basie.” The jazz icon was a Red Bank native.

Here is the schedule:

July 26: Dave Koz and Sly & the Family Stone/Graham Central Station bassist Larry Graham.
Aug. 4: Snarky Puppy.
Aug. 6: Herbie Hancock with Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), James Genus (bass), Lionel Loueke (guitar) and Terrace Martin (keyboards, saxophone).
Aug. 8: Chick Corea Elektric Band (featuring bassist John Patitucci, guitarist Frank Gambale, saxophonist Eric Marienthal and drummer Dave Weckl) and Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.
