Jewel performs at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, Dec. 11.

Jewel brings her Handmade Holiday Tour — featuring her father, Atz Kilcher, and brothers, Atz Lee and Nikos Kilcher — to the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, Dec. 11.

The singer-songwriter and occasional pop hit-maker has released two Christmas albums, Joy: A Holiday Collection (1999) and Let It Snow: A Holiday Collection (2013). But what is this tour all about?

In an interview with HomeGrownRadioNJ.com‘s DJ Easy Wind (Bob O’Donnell), which will be heard on the Internet-only station at noon Dec. 7 (or can be streamed below), Jewel said: “It’s an excuse for me to bring my entire family down from Alaska, my dad and my two brothers, whom people might know from the (Discovery Channel’s) reality show called ‘Alaska: The Last Frontier,’ where they show how I was raised, and (how) my family still lives, as homesteaders … we grew up singing together, and making gifts for one another, especially around the holidays. And so I wanted to share that tradition, not only with my son, who’s on the road with me, but with everybody.”

Some of the family’s gifts will be displayed in the lobbies of the tour’s venues, “because we wanted to kind of bring our homemade feeling, and sort of sense of connection to the tour, as well as sing a bunch of songs together,” Jewel said.

Also in the interview, Jewel said she is current working on her next album, which “will probably go more on the folky pop side again.” In other words, it will probably be in the same vein as her 2015 release, Picking Up the Pieces.
