Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will reunite at the Montclair Film Festival, May 7 at 2:30 p.m. at the Bellevue Theater, at a screening of “Unlocking the Cage,” a documentary about animal welfare activists.
Stewart and his wife Tracey, who are planning to open a sanctuary for rescued animals on their New Jersey farm, will introduce the film, and will be joined in attendance by Colbert and his wife, MFF board president Evelyn Colbert, plus directors D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus, at the screening.
Stephen Colbert’s breakthrough as a comedian came via his appearances as a correspondent on Jon Stewart’s “The Daily Show,” on Comedy Central, from 1997 to 2005. He lives in Montclair and has supported the film festival since its start, five years ago.
In other festival news, rapper and MTV personality Sway will attend the festival May 4, taking part in a Q&A session following the 8:45 p.m. screening of his short film, “The Cycle” (about police violence against black men), at Clairidge Cinema 2. And the Norman Reedus conversation at the Wellmont Theater, May 7, has been moved from 2:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
