Metallica has announced that they will release a new double album, 72 Seasons, on April 14, with a tour to follow that will come to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, Aug. 4 and 6. Pantera and Mammoth WVH will open on Aug. 4; Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills, on Aug. 6.
Drummer Lars Ulrich said on “The Howard Stern Show” today that in addition to the different opening acts, there will be no repeated songs at the two shows.
Two-day passes will go on sale, Dec. 2, and single-day tickets on Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. (with pre-sales starting Jan. 16 at 9 a.m.) Visit ticketmaster.com.
You can listen to the first single from 72 Seasons, “Lux Æterna,” below.
Frontman James Hetfield has explained the title of the album as meaning “The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.”
The band is currently scheduled to tour in Europe from April to June, and start the North American tour in New Jersey. For information and updates, visit metallica.com.
