“Money Honey” will be the title — and songs about money will presumably be the theme — of Bruce Springsteen’s 28th DJ show on SiriusXM satellite radio, debuting Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. on the network’s E Street Radio channel (channel 20).
According to a post on the SiriusXM blog, Springsteen will play music by Wanda Jackson, The Killers, Vampire Weekend, James Brown, Clarence Clemons and others.
“Pay Me My Money Down” would, perhaps, be the most likely candidates from Springsteen’s own repertoire. But if I could nominate a Springsteen song, I’d go with “Meeting Across the River,” in which the singer fantasizes about how money could change his life (“Eddie, man, she don’t understand/That two grand’s practically sitting here in my pocket”).
“I Ain’t Got You” might work, too, with Springsteen singing “I got the fortunes of heaven in diamonds and gold/I got all the bonds, baby, that the bank could hold … I got all the riches, baby, any man ever knew/But the only thing I ain’t got, honey, I ain’t got you.”
“Money Honey” is, of course, the title of a big 1953 hit by Clyde McPhatter & the Drifters. (see video below)
The show will be part of The Boss’ “From My Home to Yours” series, which he has been doing since April 2020. Click here for an index of all the songs played in the series, as well as links to videos for the songs and transcripts for each show.
The shows have lasted from about 45 minutes to about two hours each, with repeats and on-demand availability following the initial broadcasts. “Money Honey” will be rebroadcast Sept. 15 at 6 p.m., Sept. 17 at 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., Sept. 18 at 2 p.m., Sept. 19 at 10 p.m., and Sept. 20 at 7 a.m. and midnight.
