I did a post, last week, on three new videos that have been put on YouTube, featuring portions of a 2010 event at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham Campus in Madison featuring Bruce Springsteen and poet Robert Pinsky, and moderated by writer Wesley Stace (also known as musician John Wesley Harding). Today, Stace/Harding has posted yet another excerpt from that event, a video of him and Springsteen performing Springsteen’s “Wreck on the Highway” (from Springsteen’s 1980 album, The River) that has never been publicly available before.

Stace/Harding sings lead, with Springsteen on backing vocals, and both play acoustic guitars. You can watch it below.

In the clip, Stace/Harding calls the song “one of my favorites of Bruce’s songs. It’s the last song on The River and it takes the themes and closes the album very, very beautifully.”

The two also performed the same song together at a John Wesley Harding show at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, Calif., in 1994. I’ve included a clip of that below, as well.

The 2010 event with Pinsky was part of FDU’s WAMFest (Words and Music Festival) and took place in the university’s 350-capacity Dreyfuss Theater.
