Guitarist John McLaughlin to perform ‘farewell’ show in Newark

British jazz fusion guitarist John McLaughlin will bring a tour he is describing as his “farewell U.S. tour” to Prudential Hall of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, Nov. 10.

Tickets, priced from $25 to $79, go on sale Feb. 3 at 10 a.m.; visit njpac.org.

The tour is officially titled Meeting of the Spirits. McLaughlin, 75, will play a set with his 4th Dimension Band, featuring drummer Ranjit Barot, keyboardist and drummer Gary Husband, and bassist Etienne M’Bappé. Guitarist Jimmy Herring will also play a set with his Invisible Whip band, featuring drummer  Jeff Sipe, keyboardists Matt Slocum and Jason Crosby, and bassist Kevin Scott. Then McLaughlin and Herring will close the show with a jam based on material by McLaughlin’s influential ’70s and ’80s band, Mahavishnu Orchestra.

The tour, which runs from Nov. 1 to Dec. 9, will also come to Town Hall in New York on Nov. 3, and the Keswick Theatre in Philadelphia on Nov. 9.
