For $10,000, you can get Naughty by Nature to perform a 20-minute set for you, anywhere in the United States. For $8,500, you can own the original MPC sampler DJ Kay Gee used on the first Naughty by Nature album. For $3,000, you can get tattooed together with frontman Treach.
There are lots of smaller-priced items, too, in the Kickstarter campaign that the East Orange hip-hop trio has launched to help it fund a new 25th anniversary EP. For information, visit Kickstarter.com.
The group explains on the web site: “We’re crowdfunding to help pay for recording, mixing and mastering the EP. We also want to feature some special guests on the new album. We plan to do some unexpected collabs with artists from different genres. Then we need to design and replicate the EP and all of the merchandise so that we can get it to you. Not to mention the cost of marketing and publicity. We are also going to be making brand new music videos. Being indie is expensive! We need your help in order to make these things a reality.”
The group has also released a new video with Queen Latifah — who came up with the Naughty by Nature name and managed the group, through her Flavor Unit company, during its early ’90s breakthrough — for the song, “God Is Us.” Check it out:
