What you need to know if you’re seeing U2 at MetLife Stadium

by JAY LUSTIG

U2 performs at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, June 28-29.

U2 will make the only New Jersey stops on its Joshua Tree Tour 2017, June 28-29 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. The shows will include the band’s classic The Joshua Tree album in its entirety, in celebration of its 30th anniversary.

The band’s original Joshua Tree Tour had six Meadowlands shows: May 11-13 and 15-16, 1987, at the Brendan Byrne Arena, and Sept. 14, 1987, at Giants Stadium. (Giants Stadium was demolished in 2010 to make way for MetLife Stadium; the arena, later known as the Continental Airlines Arena and the Izod Center, closed in 2015).

The shows this week will begin at 7 p.m., with an opening set by The Lumineers. The box office will open at 10 a.m., the parking lots at 2 p.m. (except Lot D, for GA floor admission, which will open at 10 a.m.), and the stadium gates will open at 5 p.m.

The stadium advises: “Please arrive early and allow extra travel time due to rush hour traffic. Be advised that certain parking lots will be unavailable due to the State Fair.”

Here is a video of “Bad” from the tour’s last show, June 25 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. And below that — SPOILER ALERT! — is the setlist from that show. (The MetLife setlists will undoubtedly be similar to it.)
