New Jersey Symphony announces free summer concerts throughout state

New Jersey Symphony will present five free outdoor concerts, as well as three free outdoor concerts by its Chamber Players, this summer.

New Jersey Symphony will present five free, outdoor concerts this summer at various locations throughout the state.

José Luis Domínguez will conduct, and Timothy Lien — winner of the New Jersey Symphony Youth Orchestra’s Henry Lewis Concerto Competition — will be featured on clarinet, on the following program:

John Stafford Smith/Damrosch The Star Spangled Banner
Mikhail Glinka Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla
Ludwig Spohr Concerto in C Minor for Clarinet, Op. 26
George Walker Lyric for Strings
José Pablo Moncayo Huapango
William Grant Still Festive Overture
Florence Price Colonial Dance
John Williams Theme from Jurassic Park
Leonard Bernstein (arr. Jack Mason) Selections from West Side Story
Robert W. Lowden Armed Forces Salute
John Phillip Sousa Stars and Stripes Forever

The concerts will take place at Ocean County College in Toms River, June 27 at 8 p.m.; Raritan Bay Waterfront Park in South Amboy, June 28 at 7:30 p.m.; Branch Brook Park in Newark, June 30 at 7:30 p.m.; Marine Park in Red Bank, July 1 at 8 p.m.; and Liberty State Park in Jersey City, July 2 at 7:30 p.m.

The Symphony will present the same program at their annual appearance at a ticketed event, the Giralda Music & Arts Festival at Giralda Farms in Madison, June 25 at 6 p.m.

Also, the New Jersey Symphony Chamber Series will include three free 7 p.m. shows by the symphony’s Chamber Players ensemble at Hamilton Park in Jersey City:

July 13: “Sounds of Summer,” with Nimbus Dance
July 27: “Music of Bollywood”
Aug. 10: “A Summer Evening with DBR,” featuring violinist and curator Daniel Bernard Roumain

Complete programs for the three Chamber Players concerts are not yet available.
