Plays by Tennessee Williams, August Wilson and Agatha Christie will be part of the 2015-16 season at the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton. Subscriptions and membership packages are now available, with individual tickets going on sale in July. Visit mccarter.org.
The season begins, Sept. 11-Oct. 11, with Williams’ “Baby Doll,” adapted from the 1956 film by Pierre Laville and McCarter artistic director Emily Mann, and directed by Mann. (Williams wrote the film’s screenplay, adapting it from his one-act play, “27 Wagons Full of Cotton”).
Oct. 13-Nov. 1, it’s “A Comedy of Tenors,” Ken Ludwig’s world premiere sequel to his “Lend Me a Tenor,” co-produced with the Cleveland Play House. Ludwig was also responsible for the greatly entertaining new Sherlock Holmes play “Baskerville,” which just ended its run at the McCarter.
Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “The Piano Lesson” will be presented Jan. 8-Feb. 7, followed by the Christie mystery, “The Mousetrap,” March 8-27, and “All the Days,” a new family comedy by Sharyn Rothstein, April 29-May 29, 2016.
“What matters is that we delight, and we challenge, and we engage our audiences, and that it’s a different taste every time you sit down,” said Mann in a video promoting the upcoming season (see below). “Sometimes I think of it as a five-course meal. Hopefully what we do is give you the best of what we’ve got, in the American Theater, to delight you.”
“A Comedy of Tenors” and “The Mousetrap” will be presented on McCarter’s Matthews Stage, while the other three plays will be produced on its smaller Berlind Stage.
