The singer-songwriter known as Rowe has released a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “No Surrender.”
The one-named singer-songwriter Rowe (rhymes with “wow,” not “grow”) has released an unusual new version of Bruce Springsteen’s “No Surrender,” with a piano-violin-and-cello arrangement that helps makes this rabble-rousing ’80s anthem seem introspective for possibly the first time. Even without a rock arrangement, Rowe exudes a sense of focus and determination that suits the lyrics perfectly.

Rowe, who grew up in New England but now lives in Hopewell, was formerly part of the duo Goodbye Blue, with his wife Charlotte. He recently released his first solo album, Some New England Night.
Rowe has said: “I’ve always been a huge Springsteen fan (random fact: Born in the USA was the first pop sheet music I ever had for piano), but my respect and admiration for Bruce has continued to increase over the past decade since we’ve been living and raising kids in New Jersey. In listening to the original version of ‘No Surrender,’ I could hear some reflective themes within the song that, as a younger person, I hadn’t realized were there. This inspired me to do this new take on a classic song.”
