Bruce Springsteen gave his stamp of approval to the new Sea.Hear.Now festival in Asbury Park by joining Social Distortion onstage there, Sunday night. Videos of their performances of the Johnny Cash hit, “Ring of Fire,” and Social Distortion’s “Bad Luck” and “Misery Loves Company” are below.
The festival, primarily organized by Danny Clinch (a leading rock photographer who has done many shoots for Springsteen over the years), brought dozens of bands to Asbury Park’s beach and the city’s Bradley Park, Saturday and Sunday, with surfing and yoga activities, plus late night Sea.Hear.How concerts at the Stone Pony and the Wonder Bar, Saturday night, and more. Some 20,000 people attended Day One, according to the Asbury Park Press.
Jack Johnson and Incubus co-headlined on the festival’s main stage, located on the beach.
In 2008, Springsteen joined Social Distortion frontman Mike Ness for four songs (including “Misery Loves Company”) at a Ness show at the Stone Pony. Ness also made guest appearances at shows by Springsteen and the E Street Band in Los Angeles, in 2009, and in Anaheim, in 2012.
