If not for the pandemic, the annual Light of Day festival would be happening this week in Asbury Park and other cities. There are some indications that the Shore-based Light of Day Foundation may be planning some kind of virtual event, in its place. But as we await more information about that, I wanted to share the news that David Rotella, president of Light of Day Canada, has posted on Facebook a poster for a Light of Day Canada Online Festival, scheduled for Feb. 19-20. You can see it to the right.
Among the participants listed are Rusty Young of Poco, John Cafferty, Joe Grushecky, Willie Nile, Jake Clemons, Jarod Clemons, Jesse Malin, Joe D’Urso, Eddie Manion, Vincent Pastore, Miss Emily, Milly, Strumberry Pie and Bobby Mahoney. Most, of course, are mainstays of past Light of Day festivals.
(JAN. 12 UPDATE: Steve Earle and comedian Ron James have been added to the lineup.) (JAN. 14 UPDATE: Tom Morello and Chris Koster have been added as well.)
According to Rotella’s post, tickets go on sale Jan. 15 at noon via danitix.com, and the event will raise funds for “Parkinson’s and Cancer Research and Care.” The poster and DaniTix list the ticket prices as $25 per night, or $40 for both.
According to its website, lightofdaycanada.com, LODC has been active since 2007 and has raised more than $500,000 for the Light of Day Foundation, Parkinson Canada and other organizations.
