Remember Jones — a performer who really embraces old-fashioned showbiz in many ways — will emphasize this side of himself on his next EP, a tribute to Dean Martin titled A Kick in the Head. The album — which was produced by Richard Barone of The Bongos, and will include a duet with Martin’s daughter, Deana — won’t be out until next year. But Remember Jones gives us an idea what to expect with the EP’s hard-swinging lead single, “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head?”
You can listen to it below.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Rat Pack legend Martin, who died in 1995. “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head?” was written by composer Jimmy Van Heusen and lyricist Sammy Cahn, and sung by Martin in the 1960 movie “Ocean’s 11.”
Many others have recorded it over the years, including Sammy Davis Jr., John Pizzarelli, Steve Tyrell, Robbie Williams and the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies.
Remember Jones is starring in the musical “Jekyll & Hyde” at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal through Nov. 19, and will perform Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black album in its entirety at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, Nov. 24.
