What was already shaping up into a very special event just got more special. Southside Johnny has joined the lineup of the “Upstage Jam Session,” taking place at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, April 21.
Other performers at the event, which is part of the third annual Asbury Park Music & Film Festival, will include former E Street Band members David Sancious, Ernest “Boom” Carter and Vini “Mad Dog” Lopez, plus Sonny Kenn, Ricky DeSarno, Joe Petillo, Richard Blackwell, Albee Tellone, Chris Plunkett, Paul Whistler, Billy Ryan, Gerry Carboy, Tommy Labella and the Lakehouse Jr. Pros.
Jeff Kazee of Southside Johnny’s Asbury Jukes will be the music director.
The show will take place in conjunction with the world-premiere screening of the Asbury Park music scene documentary, “Just Before the Dawn.”
The Upstage was the legendary Asbury Park nightclub where Southside, Bruce Springsteen, Steven Van Zandt and many others got their start, in the late ’60s and early ’70s.
Tickets are available at apmff.org and the Stone Pony box office.
