THE SKULLERS

The Skullers (singer and guitarist Jack Skuller and bassist and backing vocalist Luigi Sardi) reached deep into the classic-punk catalog for their new charity single, covering “I’m Your Man.” The isn’t the Leonard Cohen song or the Wham! song, but an outtake from Richard Hell & the Voidoids’ 1977 debut album Blank Generation that was used later for the B-Side of “The Kid With the Replaceable Head,” and that was also later included on the album’s CD reissue.

You can listen to The Skullers’ version below.

“My mother was a huge fan of Richard Hell and introduced me to the song,” said Skuller in a press release. “When we perform ‘I’m Your Man’ at shows, it has become an audience favorite. It was an easy choice for us to release this mesmerizing blues-punk piece of magic as a summer single.”

Proceeds will benefit Career Gear, an organization that helps men in need enter or re-enter the workforce.

The Skullers will perform with Walter Lure & the Waldos, Lenny Kaye, The Carvels NYC and others at the Johnny Thunders Birthday Bash at The Bowery Electric in New York, July 15 at 6:30 p.m. Thunders, who died in 1991 at the age of 38, was a co-founder of the New York Dolls as well as, briefly, Hell’s bandmate in the New York-based band, The Heartbreakers.
