Like a surprising number of rock stars, Ric Ocasek has an interest in visual arts. And he will be showing some of his work at the Wentworth Gallery in at The Mall at Short Hills in October and November.

Ocasek will appear in person at the gallery opening, Oct. 21 from 5 to 8 p.m., and the exhibition, titled “Color the Lines,” will stay up through Nov. 30. Though admission to the opening event is free, RSVPs are strongly suggested; email shorthills@wentworthgallery.com or call (973) 564-9776.

“I do canvases with acrylics, but my main medium is drawing on paper, mostly with colored markers,” said Ocasek, in a press release. “Art is a way to release tension and to organize my thoughts. It’s something I do while pondering an outcome. The drawings start with a shape and explode from there.”

Check out some examples in the photo gallery, below. All the artwork in the exhibition will be available for sale, as well.

Ocasek, 68, has not been active with The Cars since 2011, and his last album as a solo artist, Nexterday, was in 2005.
