Richie Furay will stream a live concert from the back porch of his Boulder, Colo., home, Aug. 27 at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, with proceeds going to a number of non-profit organizations, including the South Orange Performing Arts Center. Furay has a concert scheduled for SOPAC, May 22 (it was originally scheduled for September), and his manager, David Stone, is a member of the SOPAC board.
Furay, whose 50+-year career includes stints in the bands Buffalo Springfield and Poco, will be joined by various other musicians in the show. It will be preceded by a “virtual VIP Meet & Greet.”
“We had planned concerts as part of a farewell tour this past Spring since I was retiring from headline touring,” said Furay in a press release. “The shows were cancelled due to COVID-19, so I never got to perform any of them. When the idea of doing a show from my back porch was mentioned by my manager, David Stone, I thought this is an awesome idea.”
In addition to SOPAC, organizations that will benefit from the stream include the National Independent Venue Association, The Guitar Center Foundation, The Wild Honey Orchestra Foundation and the Oksana Foundation. Also, some of the money will be used to help with the production of an upcoming documentary film, “Through It All: The Life and Influence of Richie Furay.”
