After presenting two rotating productions in August, on an outdoor stage, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey has announced its next project in this vein: an approximately 90-minute production featuring three one-act comedies by George Bernard Show. Titled “Shaw! Shaw! Shaw!,” it will run Oct. 14-18 and 21-25.
The plays are “Village Wooing,” “Passion, Poison and Petrification” and “Overruled.”
As in the August production, the actors are part of STNJ’s Shrewd Mechanicals touring company. The shows will take place at STNJ’s Back Yard Stage, located in front of the back wall of the theater’s Thomas H. Kean Theatre Factory in Florham Park. (It’s a building that STNJ usually uses for storage, rehearsing, office space and more). Audience members will sit, socially distanced from each other, on the building’s large back lawn.
“I’ve always thought of Shaw as a kind of ‘indoors-y’ playwright, but unusual times call for unusual decisions, and I’m sure Mr. Shaw will do just fine in the night air,” said STNJ artistic director Bonnie J. Monte, who will also be directing the production.
The performances will take place Oct. 14-18 and 21-25 at 7 p.m., as well as Oct. 18 and 25 at 4 p.m. Visit shakespearenj.org.
