The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey has announced its 2019 shows.
The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, which recently concluded its 2018 season with a production of Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale,” has announced the six plays in its 2019 season (the 57th in its history).
They will include Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” and “As You Like It,” as well as “William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged),” a spoof written by Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor. Both writers are associated with the Reduced Shakespeare Company, which created the popular “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged).”
Here are the shows, with the dates on which they will begin previews, and open. All will be presented at the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre at Drew University in Madison except for “William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged),” which will be at the Outdoor Stage at the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown.
• Ken Ludwig’s “The Three Musketeers,” adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas. Previews begin June 12, opens June 15.
• “William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged),” by Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor. Previews begin July 3, opens July 10.
• “The Rainmaker,” by N. Richard Nash. Previews begin July 31, opens Aug. 3.
• “As You Like It,” by William Shakespeare. Previews begin Sept. 11, opens Sept. 14
• “Romeo and Juliet,” by William Shakespeare. Previews begin Oct. 16, opens Oct. 19.
• Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” adapted for the stage by Neil Bartlett. Previews begin Dec. 4, opens Dec. 7.
