In a new BBC interview, listenable in its entirety here, Bruce Springsteen said at the all-star Aug. 21 Central Park concert, he will be “only doing a small guest appearance with my great friend, Patti Smith, on ‘Because the Night’ — that’s our plan.”
Although Springsteen’s participation had previously been confirmed, there has been much speculation on the extent of his participation, and whether the E Street Band will be involved.
Paul Simon and Jennifer Hudson are also confirmed for the show on Central Park’s Great Lawn, which will celebrate New York’s “reopening” after the pandemic.
Springsteen also told BBC interviewer Zoe Ball, “Clive Davis, who is shepherding the show, is one of the men I would say changed my life forever by signing me to Columbia Records in 1972, when I was a kid that came up on the bus one day from Asbury Park, dragging a guitar over his shoulder … Clive is one of those people that I like to say yes to, because all the other yeses that happened in my life happened because of him.”
Regarding his touring plans, he said, “We’ll be touring next year, if everything goes well. The E Street Band will be back on the road. I’m hoping that all works out the way … you know, depending of course on the virus and just what’s opening up and what’s opened up, and where you can play your shows.”
He also said that at least a few more shows in his “From My Home to Yours” DJ show on SiriusXM satellite radio are in the works, and that one will have the theme of “My Hometown.”
It will be made up of “a lot of songs of people singing about where they grew up,” he said.
