The Trey Anastasio Band performed the E Street Band song “Kitty’s Back” with Bruce Springsteen guesting, Sept. 15 at the Sea.Hear.Now festival, on the beach in Asbury Park. You can watch the video below.

“I never thought I’d have to follow Bruce Springsteen on the beach, in Asbury Park,” Anastasio said after the song, when he and the band then had to continue with the rest of their set.

Springsteen and Anastasio have not performed a lot together in the past, but they do have some history together. In 2009, Springsteen joined Anastasio’s main band Phish for three songs — “Glory Days,” “Bobby Jean” and “Mustang Sally” — at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. (Springsteen also performed with the E Street Band at that festival.)

Last night, Springsteen joined Danny Clinch’s Tangiers Blues Band (plus Jake Clemons, Robert Randolph and others) at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, for “Lucille,” “Down the Road a Piece,” “Boom Boom” and other songs.

Springsteen and the E Street band will perform on the main Sea.Hear.Now stage at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15. (UPDATE: Click HERE for coverage on it.)
