Bruce Springsteen did something this week he has rarely done in the past, postponing a show: His Madison Square Garden concert that had been scheduled for tonight will take place, instead, on a date to be named later, because of the severe blizzard that hit the Northeast.
He is offering his fans some music tonight anyway, via a free download of his Tuesday night show in Chicago.
A post titled “A thank you from E Street” on brucespringsteen.net reads:
“Out here on E Street, we’re missing our fans at The Garden tonight and wanted to send this along.
Starting at 8PM tonight, the live recording of The River tour from the Jan. 19 Chicago show will be available as a free MP3 download for the next two days at live.brucespringsteen.net.
The show included a complete performance of Springsteen’s 1980 album The River (as will all shows on his current tour) as well as a cover of The Eagles’ “Take It Easy” (in tribute to the late Glenn Frey) and 12 other songs.
According to live.brucespringsteen.net, “MP3s and CDs and higher fidelity formats will go on sale Wednesday.”
Springsteen performs at the Garden, Jan. 27, as well as the Prudential Center in Newark, Jan. 31.
