Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band’s The River tour is on a short hiatus right now — the last show was June 5 in London, and the next one is June 14 in The Netherlands — and instead of hanging out in Europe for those nine days, Steven Van Zandt has come back to the States. Saturday night, he was in Holmdel — not far from the town where he grew up, Middletown — for a concert by Joe Walsh and Bad Company, and he joined Walsh onstage for “Rocky Mountain Way.” (See video below.)

Montclair native Walsh and Bad Company also perform tonight at the BB&T Pavilion in Camden, while Walsh will perform on his own at the Event Center at Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City on July 30. Springsteen and the E Street Band will be at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, Aug. 23, 25 and 30.

“Rocky Mountain Way” is one of Walsh’s signature songs, as well as his first hit as a solo artist, making the Top 40 in 1973.

Van Zandt’s wife Maureen Van Zandt noticed that Walsh’s guitarist, Waddy Wachtel, happened to be wearing a Bada Bing T-shirt (referring to the fictional go-go bar in the series “The Sopranos,” which both Van Zandts acted in), and tweeted about it at @MVZaGoGo, prompting the response by Steven (@stevievanzandt) at the left.

Here is a YouTube video of “Rocky Mountain Way,” with lots of good guitar playing from both Walsh and Van Zandt, from Saturday:
